How to Use Microphone Test

  1. Select Start microphone and allow microphone access if you want to continue.
  2. Choose an input under Microphone if more than one is available.
  3. Speak normally and watch Relative input level.
  4. Optionally select Record 5 seconds. Recording ends after five seconds and turns microphone access off; Stop ends it early.
  5. Use the audio player's play button to listen. Clear recording removes the clip from this page.

What you can check

What your result means

A moving meter means audio is arriving, which may include background noise. Its percentage is a relative signal level, not a measured sound level in the room.

Listen to the optional recording to check speech clarity. The result does not guarantee the same sound in a meeting app, which may use different input or processing settings.

Helpful tips

If access is denied, check browser and system permissions. Also check a mute switch, the input selection, and the device connection.

There is no live playback while the microphone is open. Stop or hiding the tab ends access; a new microphone session clears the previous clip.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tool upload my voice?

No. The meter and optional recording run in this page. The tool does not upload audio or send recordings to a server.

Why must I allow microphone access?

The browser needs your permission to open an input. The request appears only after Start microphone, and you can deny it.

Why is Record 5 seconds unavailable?

The browser may support microphone input without recording support. You can still use the live meter if access works.

Does Stop remove my browser permission?

Stop ends this page's active microphone stream. The browser may keep its permission setting; manage that separately in browser settings.
